… my Way
For much of history the “street” is where people connected and interacted. It was the place for much work and play. The term “street” has thus become synonymous with “public space”. Street photography, as I see it, is images of everyday life in public places. Not just pictures of life on the streets, but any place that people come together. Often that is at public events like fairs and festivals. Nowadays public life is often inside in malls and other places that might not be considered “street”.
When I started doing street photography, back in the1950s, I had no idea that there was such a thing. I just enjoyed taking pictures of the world around me.
Only in recent times have I thought of some of these images as being “genuine street photography”. Even so, I don’t really call myself a street photographer, just a photographer who also does street photography.
In this collection I have brought together some of these photos.
This is My Street Photography
Street photography means different things to different people. My street photography spans many sub-genres. Here are some examples:
“Classic” – The way the term “street photography” is defined by many. Scenes on streets with people in everyday activities.
“Portrait” – Casual, candid portraiture is generally regarded as an intergral part of street photography.
“Photographer” – I have always enjoyed capturing my fellow photographers “in the act”.
“Walking Away” – Mostly classic street photography images with the principal people walking away from us – we see what they see.
“On Stage” – performers, some in the street, some actually on a stage.
Just as in a real gallery, you can inspect the images more closely. First click on an image. It will take you to a “lightbox” with the five images in that group. You can go forward or backward with the arrow icons on the sides. But there is more! Click the circled-i icon in the lower right. It will open a panel below the image with some camera data and on the bottom line an option to “View full size …”. You will need to use the scroll bars to see all the detail. Enjoy!
